Friends of the Orpheum Theatre & Downtown Phoenix Inc. present THE CLASSICS AT THE ORPHEUM THEATRE.
With nothing quite like sitting under a silver screen, the Orpheum Theatre is a place where history and technology collide. Guests get to enjoy classic films at a 93-year-old historical venue, inside of an audience chamber that creates an illusion of sitting in a Spanish villa, with a state-of-the-art sound system. Nothing in the Valley can top this experience. The theater has history, the beauty of the building, both inside and out, impresses all who visit. Equipped with new, state-of-the-art projection and sound equipment, Friends of the Orpheum Theatre, along with Downtown Phoenix Inc. and the City of Phoenix, are introducing a classic movie series at the historic theater.
GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER – In Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn’s final screen pairing (their ninth), they play an affluent couple whose liberal views are put to the test when their daughter brings home her fiancé, and he turns out to be a black doctor. The film was one of the rare films at the time to depict an interracial marriage in a positive light, as interracial marriage historically had been illegal in most states of the United States. In Stanley Kramer’s social drama, Sidney Poitier plays a man in a relationship with a White woman played by Katharine Houghton.
$16 adults, $11 children 12 and under. Duration 1hr 48mins.
