“The Unknown” featuring RPM Orchestra

The Friends of the Orpheum Theatre Link opens in new window in celebration of our beloved tradition of Silent Sundays debuts “The Unknown” Link opens in new window, a 1927 American silent horror film directed by Tod Browning and starring Lon Chaney as carnival knife thrower “Alonzo the Armless” and Joan Crawford as his beloved carnival girl Nanon.

Guests are invited to enjoy this classic film in one of the most beautiful and historic venues in downtown Phoenix. RPM Orchestra will be performing throughout the movie but also expect some theatrical surprises throughout the show, making this a once in a lifetime cinematic experience.

A short silent horror film will play before the feature presentation.

“Frankenstein” is a 1910 short film directed by J. Searle Dawley and produced by Edison Studios. Generally recognized as the first screen adaptation of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, it was fully restored by the Library of Congress in 2018.

RPM ORCHESTRA is a proto-Industrial Americana music quintet, best known for composing original scores to accompany films of the Silent Era, awarded ‘Best of Phoenix 2018 – Best Live Accompaniment’ by Phoenix New Times, which wrote, “Combining old-timey instrumentation with radio sounds, haunting samples, and modern noise, RPM creates compelling and timeless soundscapes.”

Get ready to be thrilled, chilled and fulfilled once again when The Rocky Horror Picture Show makes its way back to The Historic Bakersfield Fox Theater!

It’s the 45th Anniversary + 1 (plus one since we didn’t get to celebrate the 45th Anniversary last year) and live shadow cast The Velvet Darkness is also returning to our stage. Make sure to order your custom designed t-shirts by Chris Borbon and prop bags at check out and “give yourself over to absolute pleasure” on October 30, 2021.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is Rated R and anyone under 17 will need a parent or guardian present to be admitted. No outside props will be allowed. Bag Checks will be enforced.

The Lights Out experience includes the use of investigative equipment and an in-depth examination into the history of the theatre and the property where it stands. A brief tour of several non-public areas and a group debrief are also included in this 90 minute experience.

The final film in our nod to the classics is Psycho! Featuring the infamous hotel Westward Ho and the Downtown Phoenix skyline of 1960, Psycho is one to be experienced in Phoenix’s original movie house.
