Special “In Maintenance” Theatre Tour!
From tales of the myriad first-class actors who have walked our boards over the years, to anecdotes and ghost stories… this August experience our Theatre Tours with a twist! Our Georgian auditorium is spruced up over the summer, as our Technical and Production teams ensure everything is in working order for the Autumn shows.
Like our usual tours you’ll explore the theatre’s 252-year history with an expert guide, gaining insight into the recent redevelopment through our new foyer space, studio theatre, and heritage interpretation.
Unlike our usual tours, see our Georgian auditorium in maintenance mode as the work which enables us to be the oldest continuously-working theatre in the English-speaking world is done! Due to this essential work, we are unable to allow access to the theatre stage or the Paintshop on this tour; if these are experiences you don’t want to miss, they are available on our July or Autumn tours.
Tours generally start at 10:30am and last one hour. Tickets £10 (£8 concessions).

See the hilarious, award-winning, one-woman show that inspired the BBC’s hit TV series Fleabag, broadcast live from London’s West End.
Written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) and directed by Vicky Jones, Fleabag is a rip-roaring look at some sort of woman living her sort of life.
Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With family and friendships under strain and a guinea pig café struggling to keep afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose.
Playing to sold-out audiences in New York and London, don’t miss your chance to see this ‘legitimately hilarious show’ (New Yorker).

“An installation of empty seats to celebrate theatre, the artists who make it, and its missing audiences”.
The #TakeASeat project has been created by Scotland-based set, costume, lighting and sound designers and production managers. They have used their creative skills to make the new installation which is designed to engage and inspire the audiences they are missing.
The installation will remain in place from Thursday 24 September to Saturday 3 October 2020 and can be viewed by the public from the outside only. At the curtain-up times of the show which should have been playing at the theatre – if Covid-19 hadn’t come along – the installation will get additional sound and light, creating a dynamic show for any audience who are on the pavement outside.
