Rubush & Hunter

Architects Preston C. Rubush and Edgar O. Hunter formed their partnership in 1905 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Rubush (1867-1947) was born in Oakford, Indiana, attended public schools there, and completed a special course in architecture at the University of Illinois. He moved to Indianapolis in 1893.

Hunter (1873-1949) was born in Versailles, Indiana, attended public schools in Indianapolis, then studied at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon his return to Indianapolis Hunter worked another architect firm before establishing a partnership with Rubush.

The Rubush & Hunter architect firm operated until 1939 when both men retired. Many of the firm’s buildings have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Indiana Theatre and Ballroom Building.
