Charles McKeith

Born: 1898 (Blackpool, UK)

Died: 1980 (Blackpool, UK)

Charles Hewitson MacKeith was born on 23 May 1898 and was articled to Charles Turnbull Ewing of Crieff from 1913 until 1917, studying at Blackpool St Anne’s Schools of Art and Technical College. He then served with the Royal Garrison Artillery in the First World War, after which he took up a post as chief assistant with Albert Winstanley in St Anne’s-on-Sea followed by a spell with James (?) Lewis of Blackpool and in 1928 became assistant architect to the Blackpool Tower and Winter Gardens Company.

In 1932 MacKeith became a junior partner with J C Derham’s practice, also in Blackpool and when Derham died in 1936 he became architect to Blackpool Tower Winter Gardens Company and principal of the practice which appears to have retained the name Derham MacKeith & Partners.

In 1950 MacKeith was working for MacKeith Dickinson & Partners and was President of the Blackpool & Fylde Architectural Society. He remained in the same practice until 1979. MacKeith died in 1980.
