The Capitol Theatre, built on the site of the President Theatre, was opened in September 1931 by General J.B.M Hertzog (then prime Minister of the Union Of South Africa).
The theatre was designed by P. Rogers Cooke, a prominent architect of the time, in an Italian style. Interior design was by A. Sandor Konya, a noted set designer who also dabbled in movie theatre interior design.
The theatre was closed on 26th October 1974, and was later converted by Pretoria City Council into a parking garage.
In December 2007, the building was converted into a gay nightclub, named Legends.
