American Music Awards

American Music Awards

The American Music Awards (AMAs) is an annual American music awards show, generally held in the Autumn/Fall, created by Dick Clark in 1973 for ABC after the network’s contract to air the Grammy Awards expired.

The inaugural AMAs were held at the Aquarius Theater (originally called the Earl Carroll Theatre) in Hollywood. For 1975-79 the AMAs moved to the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, and then were broadcast from ABC Television Center (the Prospect Studios) in Hollywood in 1980 and 1981. From 2007 onwards, the AMAs have been held at the Nokia Theatre (later called the Microsoft Theater, and as of Summer 2023 called the Peacock Theater) in Downtown Los Angeles.
