New York’s Broadway theatre district, nicknamed the “Great White Way”, has been entertaining audiences since the early 1900s. There are currently 41 “official” Broadway theatres alongside countless others ranging from small off-Broadway houses, the Lincoln Center, and large spaces such as Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall.

Hudson Theatre

The Hudson is Broadway’s oldest surviving theatre, having opened on 19th October 1903 just weeks before the opening of the extant New Amsterdam and Lyceum theatres, which opened late October 1903 and early November 1903 respectively (although the New Victory Theatre opened – as the Theatre Republic – in September 1900 it is not a Broadway theatre). After a period of private use, the Hudson was reopened in February 2017 as the 41st theatre on Broadway in New York.

Radio City Music Hall

Radio City Music Hall, dubbed “the Showplace of the Nation”, opened in December 1932. The vast Art Deco music hall is part of the Rockefeller Center complex. Radio City seats 5,960 and to this day remains one of the largest indoor theatres in the United States, both by seating capacity and stage size.

St. George Theatre

The St. George Theatre is a performing arts venue, movie palace, and office complex in Staten Island, New York City. The 2,800-seat theatre was built for Staten Island theatre operator Solomon Brill and opened in late 1929.

The Town Hall

The 1,495-seat Town Hall on 43rd Street in New York City opened in January 1921, designed by architect firm McKim, Mead & White for the League for Political Education, which had been established in 1894 to advocate for women’s suffrage. The Town Hall is now a popular concert and events venue.
