The NAACP Image Awards are presented annually by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to honor outstanding performances in film, television, music, and literature.
The inaugural award ceremony took place in 1970 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. Information for the 1970s and 1980s is patchy, however it is known that the Hollywood Palladium hosted in 1974, 1979, and 1981-1982. In 1995 there was a gap year. From 2001 to 2004 the award ceremony took place at the Universal Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
