Daytime Emmy Awards

Daytime Emmy Awards

The Daytime Emmy Award is presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) Link opens in new window for excellence in American daytime television programming. First awarded in 1974, Daytime Emmy ceremonies were originally conducted in New York however moved to the U.S. West Coast in 2006.

The inaugural ceremony took place in 1974 at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. In 1975 the event moved to a ship, the S.S. Dayliner which was anchored in the Hudson River for the ceremony, between New York City and New Jersey. In 1977 the ceremony took place at the Tavern on The Green in Central Park in New York, then moved to the Vivian Beaumont Theatre for 1979. Information for the 1980s and 1990s is patchy, however in 1988 and 1989 the ceremony took place at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, and in 1990 and 1993 at the Marriott Marquis hotel in Times Square. Madison Square Garden hosted in 1999 and 2002.

The Daytime Emmys moved to the U.S. West Coast in 2006. In 2010 and 2011 the ceremony took place at the Las Vegas Hilton, and in 2012 through 2014 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. Warner Bros studios (Burbank, California) hosted in 2015, and in 2016 the ceremony moved to the Westin Bonaventure hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The ceremony was held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium from 2017, until in 2020 and 2021 when the ceremony was held remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2022 the ceremony returned to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, and in 2023 was planned to move back to the Westin Bonaventure hotel in Downtown Los Angeles however was postponed in Summer 2023 due to the Writers Guild of America strike.
