2011 not only brought us the Indonesian action jaw dropper The Raid but also the laugh out loud mind blowingly inventive low budget UK sci-fi action comedy epic Attack The Block. This is the movie that introduced John Boyega (soon to be known as Finn in the Star Wars movies) to the world. Boyega plays, with star-making power, Moses, the leader of a group of working class British kids and hooligans. After initial success killing what they think is a lone alien, they discover they have to single handedly take on an army of carnivorous “bigger” aliens who somehow decide to land and take over their apartment complex.
Add Attack the Block to your list of low budget miracles that includes The Evil Dead, Dead Alive, and Duel. Hilarious, inventive, action packed, and surprisingly touching from its very first scene, Attack the Block is the kind of low budget action film we don’t see enough of. The filmmakers leave it all out on the field and we the audience are lucky recipients of the genius of that approach.

We are showing John Ford’s classic ode to romance and an Irish sensibility that may only exist in the hearts of Irish-Americans, The Quiet Man to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2019. And Ford directs like a person who feels he has got to sum it all up. Here we get the entire Ford repertory of actors-John Wayne, Maureen O Hara, Barry Fitzgerald, Ward Bond, Victor McLaglen-teaming up for the story of conflicted American boxer, Sean Thornton, played by a surprisingly lovable John Wayne, returning to his ancestral homeland in Ireland to escape his violent past. There he falls in love with Mary Kate, the spirited and willful Maureen O Hara. But when Sean and Mary Kate marry and marry Kate’s brother, Will (played with drunken stubbornness by McLaglen) refuses to pay her dowry, storm clouds form on the horizon of the marriage.

Each year, the Hollywood Pantages hosts the Jerry Herman High School Musical Theatre Awards with one goal: to constructively support local high school performing arts programs. Both public and private high schools from all over Los Angeles County submit productions for consideration across twelve performance and technical categories: Scenic Design, Lighting Design, Costume Design, Orchestra, Ensemble/Chorus, Musical Staging/Choreography, Musical Direction, Technical Crew, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, "No Small Parts", and Best Production.
The Hollywood Pantages sends volunteer adjudicators to all of the performances. In the spring, a team at the Pantages, determine the nominees using the adjudicators’ notes and a DVD of the production.
To compete for the best actor and best actress categories, each participating school sends one male and one female lead to audition in front of a panel of industry judges. For two days leading up the award show, the best actor and actress nominees are narrowed down to three male and three female finalists.
